Shri Wageshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to a local legend, a mariner found a Shivalinga while angling. A few days later, the area where the Shivalinga was found was raised, and the land was exposed. The locals thus decided to build a temple and preserve the region's ecology, which often had tigers visiting.

The only marine sanctuary in the state, Malvan Marine Sanctuary, was established in 1987 to preserve this biologically rich coastal region. The core zone of the sanctuary expands over an area of 27 square kilometres.
